(May 18, 2009) - I read somewhere that D.C. is the new New York, and I couldn't agree with this statement more. This city can’t sleep. The District is bustling more than ever. With celebrities dropping in town for premieres, galas and other distinguished events, our hardworking politicians are also getting a taste of the fabulous life.

Speaking of politicians getting a taste of the fabulous life, Terry McAullife, Democratic candidate for the governor of Virginia, tapped Will.i.am, member of the music group the Black Eyed Peas, to help him campaign. Hosting a concert at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, Va., Will.i.am used his star power to secure the youth vote. Will.i.am was also spotted at Fly Lounge later that evening partying it up with the locals.

Rapper Ice-T, known for his role as a crime-fighting detective on “Law & Order,” was in the District last week to help the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America tape the organization’s “Sharing Miracles” show. Both of Ice-T parents died of heart failure.

While President and Mrs. Obama hosted the White House's first poetry slam, there were many other celebs spotted in town: Omarosa, the queen of reality show television was spotted with Paul Wharton of the CW at the America’s Polo Cup Gala in Montgomery County last week; Magic Johnson was spotted inside the Cannon Building giving an interview and Al Sharpton was spotted inside the White House, talking to President Obama about education. Up-and-coming rapper Drake gave a spirited performance inside Love Nightclub last Friday and the city was buzzing about a new reality television show focused on D.C. nightlife. "Party Boyz" premiered on TV One last Sunday with mixed reviews.

With so much going on in the District, of course there are many things you must check out. The Universoul Circus has taken over D.C.’s Capital Plaza Mall (6900 Annapolis Rd., Landover Hills, MD) until May 31. It’s the only African-American owned circus in the nation. The Big Top is here so don’t miss it.

Also, a must-check-out restaurant is the recently opened Eatonville. Inspired by Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale Hurston, Eatonville is the perfect place for southern cuisine with a touch of elegance. With vibrant murals decorating the walls inside, Eatonville pays homage to Hurston's novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. The menu includes tasty treats like fried green tomatoes, shrimp and crawfish etouffe and even a crab cake burger.

It looks like the weather is heating up so go out and enjoy. For the hottest events in the city, visit www.thefabempire.com.

Stay fab, y'all!
