(June 17, 2009) - Is it me or has D.C. been on steroids ever since the inauguration of President Barack Obama? Not only do television networks want to produce reality television shows in the District, but the celebrities and A-list events haven’t stopped popping up inside our city limits.

Dr. Dorothy Height’s National Council of Negro Women honored Oprah Winfrey last Thursday at the Uncommon Height’s award ceremony, a black-tie event named after Dr. Height. This year the award was presented by Dr. Thelma Daley and former Labor Secretary Alexis Herman.

Last week, radio and television personality Big Tigger, brought his annual celebrity basketball classic back to the District. Not only is it a weekend for B and C-list celebs to party and have a good time but the weekend also raises awareness for HIV/AIDS and caters to youth interested in sports. A kick-off party was hosted at Lux Lounge, bringing out celebrities like Washington Wizards’ Caron Butler, reality television star Omarosa Manigault Stallworth, DJ Clue, Fonzworth Bentley and R&B singer J. Holiday.

But of course Big Tigger wasn’t the only reason why celebs stopped in and around town. Que of R&B group Day 26 partied at Eyebar, while actor Terrence Howard was spotted at Teatro Goldoni along with Gabrielle Union, Ben Chavez and Russell Simmons. Looks like Howard and company enjoyed the good Italian food while in town for the “Keeping the Promise to our Children” conference on Capitol Hill. Even Attorney General Eric Holder was spotted taking a page from President Obama by giving his staff something to munch on. While out with his wife, Sharon, Holder fed his security detail Clyde’s bacon cheeseburgers last Tuesday night.

And that’s not all: Comedian Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s younger brother, partied in Josephines before his comedy shows at the DC Improv. NBA player Carmelo Anthony threw a party at Lux Lounge this past Saturday while NFL player Vernon Davis threw a party on the other side of town on the same night.

Although it may seem like you’ve missed a ton, fear not, D.C. is still buzzing as we speak. SilverDocs, the documentary film festival that brings over hundreds of films to Silver Spring is also bringing some big names. Lebron James will be in town for the opening night to watch a documentary based on his childhood basketball career called More than a Game. You have until June 22 to get tickets to see hundreds of other amazing films. Visit www.silverdocs.com for more information.

For my party people, come party with BET reality television star Brooke Crittendon, also known as, Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend, as she parties in Layla Lounge (501 Morse Street NE) on Friday night. For more parties like these, visit www.thefabempire.com.
