(October 25, 2009) - Bobby Brown’s marriage to ex-wife Whitney Houston was “doomed from the beginning,” the R&B singer writes in a new tell-all book, according to Insider.com.
The book, “Bobby Brown: The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But,” is due out in bookstores next month. In it, Brown writes that the couple got together for different reasons.
“Now I realize Whitney had a different agenda than I did when we got married,” he writes in an excerpt posted on Insider.com. “I believe her agenda was to clean up her image, while mine was to be loved and have children.”
The one-time self-proclaimed “bad boy of R&B” goes further, claiming Houston only wanted to marry him so that she could silence rumors of her being a lesbian.
“The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship with her assistant, Robin Crawford,” Brown writes, according to the excerpt. “Since she was the American Sweetheart and all, that didn’t go too well with her image. In Whitney's situation, the only solution was to get married and have kids. That would kill all speculation, whether it was true or not.”
The singer also discusses the introduction of drug use into he and Houston’s marriage, saying he had experimented with drugs but did not use cocaine until he met Houston.
Houston responded to the allegations through her publicist, who released a statement to People Magazine.
“Miss Houston is sad that Bobby feels the need to say such things but she chooses to take the high road and will not speak badly about the father of her child even if it’s to set the record straight,” the statement said.
Brown divorced Houston in 2007 after 14 years of marriage.
