African Americans joined Hispanic, White and Vietnamese workers in a counterprotest after management altered the workweek at a Nebraska meatpacking plant to reportedly accommodate Muslim workers in a prayer dispute.
The Associated Press reported that African Americans were among about 400 workers who walked off their job last week to protest a temporary break schedule that left their shift short hours Monday through Friday. It also forced them to work Saturday to earn at least 40 hours of pay.
The walkout came after 300 Muslim workers walked off the job in protest of a prayer dispute. The Muslim workers wanted their break times adjusted so they could pray at sunset during the Muslim observance of Ramadan.
