Wendell L Johnson, Jr., 91, a much loved husband, father, and grandfather, and “Pop-Pop”, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Envoy Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born in Kansas, he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and graduated from Hampton Institute and from Atlanta University with an MSW degree in 1949. Wendell served with distinction during World War II in the United States Army from June 1943 to December 1945.

He was awarded the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon and the American Theater Service Ribbon.

A psychiatric Social Worker, he retired from the Chicago Housing Authority as the Deputy Director, having managed the Robert Taylor and Cabrini Green houses.

His first wife, Rose Vaughn Johnson and his brother Churchill Johnson predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Wilson Johnson of Forest Park, sons Wendell II “Skip”, Jeffrey, Brian, Anthony Wilson and daughters Edith “Ginger” Harrell, Deidre Wilson Redmond and The Rev. Sandye Wilson.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 26 At Noon at Episcopal Church of The Holy Trinity, Baltimore.
