WHAT: BGE, ENERGY STAR and the Boys and Girls Club of Edgewood invite the media to join them, along with the representatives from ENERGY STAR, The Home Depot, Samsung, Gardiners Furniture, BEMO Energy Solutions, C&J Contractors, Art with a Heart and the staff, students and families of the Boys and Girls Club, for the official unveiling of the newly renovated and upgraded Boys and Girls Club of Edgewood. BGE volunteers will complete various community service projects at the Boys and Girls Club over a 3-day period, as part of the ENERGY STAR #ChangeTheWorld Tour kickoff. The 3-day makeover will culminate with an unveiling Thursday evening and includes:
- Energy efficient lighting upgrades throughout the entire facility, including all classrooms, the gymnasium and all outdoor lighting, courtesy of BGE Smart Energy Savers Program®, BEMO Energy Solutions and C&J Contractors
- New energy efficient televisions, refrigerators and tablets, courtesy of Samsung
- New furniture and rugs throughout the Club, courtesy of Gardiners Furniture
- Painting projects in all classrooms
- Appliance upgrades and recycling through BGE appliance recycling partner JACO
- Constructing walls to divide classrooms for increased learning opportunities for students
- Constructing bookcases and tables
- New blinds for exterior windows
In addition, students in the Boys and Girls Club STEM program will unveil their new music video at the event.

WHY: As part of its commitment to building strong communities in central Maryland, BGE supports initiatives like the Boys and Girls Club Makeover and the ENERGY STAR #ChangeTheWorld Tour.ENERGY STAR’s first-ever #ChangeTheWorld Tour pairs public and private organizations across the country together to make a difference in people’s lives through energy efficiency and community service.
In 2013 alone, BGE employees, friends and family logged more than 25,000 hours volunteering with more than 135 different community organizations. Equivalent to 12 years of full-time service, these volunteer efforts offer BGE’s nonprofit partners the opportunity to reinvest resources and better serve communities throughout central Maryland.
