Red Bull is taking street dance to another level with their Dance Your Style competition debuting in the Nation’s capital on July 20. With no limitation to the type of dances that can be performed or the music that can be played, this competition is all about taking the stage by storm with full creative freedom. The Dance Your Style competition is a celebration of the diversity of dance and the authenticity that each dancer brings to the table.
“Red Bull Dance your Style is all about giving freedom to dancers. There’s no planned choreography, no pre-chosen music or one dedicated style of dance,” said Red Bull in a statement.
Not only are the DJ and dancers allowed to freestyle, but the judges of this competition are the viewers. One of Red Bull’s ultimate goals with Dance Your Style is to recreate the social dynamics of street dancing and street dance competitions.
Dancers from across the Mid-Atlantic will meet this weekend in D.C. to pop, lock and battle for the title of Best in the East. Each round is judged by the crowd approval who ultimately will decide their regional champion. The regional champion will get a chance to progress to Red Bull’s Dance Your Style National Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dancers will be challenged by the DJs with a wide range of music, from international hits to classic hip hop beats. The competitors will have to bring their individual flare and best showmanship as they go toe-to-toe with each other for a shot at being the regional champion. Honolulu, Washington, D.C., Miami, Boston, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Las Vegas are amongst the participating cities for the regional competition.
Red Bull’s 2019 Dance Your Style will be hosting over 50 events in 30 countries in which a winner will eventually emerge.
The first Red Bull Dance Your Style World Champion will be crowned at the World Final on October 12 in Paris, France.
The Dance Your Style competition will take place this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Howard Theater (620 T Street Northwest Washington, DC 20001). There will be special performances by the TSU Dance Crew, Queen P and Infinite Flow.
