COMMUNITY CONCERT CHOIR PRESENTS SPRING CONCERT
Free Concert at Historic Enon Baptist Church to Preserve and Promote
The Sacred Music Tradition of African American Churches
Music lovers from the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Area are expected to crowd Enon Baptist Church, 601 N. Schroeder St., 5 p.m., May 27, for the spring concert of the Community Concert Choir (CCC) of Baltimore. The chorus of more than 100 voices will feature sacred classical selections, anthems, Negro Spirituals, traditional hymns and gospel songs.
“I’m deeply committed to helping preserve the rich music that distinguished the African American Church tradition in this nation; and it’s celebrated around the world,” said Marco K. Merrick, founding director of the CCC. “Many churches today do not include this music regularly, while many people hunger for it. However, these choir members from many denominations and traditions joyously perform and enjoy this great music, so that others – especially our children can experience it too.”
During the free concert, the program will feature one of the most noted classically trained church organists along the eastern seaboard, W. Patrick Alston and accompanist Jimothy Rogers, a church musician, instrumental entrepreneur and performer in Maryland.
Founded in 2010, the CCC’s inaugural concert took place November 2010 at The Historic Union Baptist Church, where more than a thousand people caused a standing-room only attendance. Since then, the choir has been commissioned to perform in several Baltimore Area churches; and is featured each fall in a to benefit students in Baltimore City Public Schools, sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc., Delta Lambda Chapter.
A freewill offering will be received during the concert and a reception will be held for everyone in the A.J. Payne Center of the church following the concert. All contributions are tax deductible, as the CCC, Inc. is a 501 C-3, non-profit organization. For further information, contact Enon Baptist Church at 410-728-1490 or Dr. Marco K. Merrick at 410-728-4129 or [email protected]
