A 34-year-old woman who was shot in the head at a playground as she played with her son has been released from the hospital this week according to the Baltimore Police Department (BPD).
The woman’s 11-year-old son remains in the hospital in stable condition. He was shot in the head and hand and was immediately rushed into surgery.
Both mother and son were randomly approached last week by an unknown woman who allegedly began shooting after striking up a conversation with the victims.
Nichole George, 31, of the 900 block of Seagull Ave in the Cherry Hill neighborhood was arrested and charged with numerous counts, including attempted first degree murder, second degree assault, and weapons violations.
George lived across the street from the playground where she allegedly shot the victims and returned to her home a short time later after fleeing the scene in her car.
Witnesses told police where George lived and she was taken into custody.
According to police, George seemed shocked when she was placed in custody allegedly telling police where to find the gun and saying “I can’t believe I did that.”
She allegedly became combative while being transported to Central Booking and Intake.
Police say they found the gun inside of a pair of boots along with a box of ammo.
Police do not believe that George and the victims knew one another.
It has been confirmed that George was a driver with the ride share program Lyft, which released a statement March 19.
“The safety of our community is our top priority. While the incident described did not involve the Lyft platform, we have permanently deactivated this individual,” according to the statement.
There is no known motive and there was no attorney listed for George in online court records.
