Raymond Scott celebrated his 94th birthday on Sept. 1 at The First Charity Baptist Church Baltimore along with being honored for his distinguished service as a veteran of World War ll. During the ceremony, it was noted at the time of Scott’s enlistment how hard it was to be a Black man in the armed forces during his time of service. Scott’s family members poured in from Virginia and Delaware specifically to honor a living legend. The Rev. Hollis C. Neal referenced the young people in attendance that they were looking at a real hero, that is Raymond Scott.. City Council President Brandon Scott presented Scott with a citation from the city, and soloist, Kathleen Crawley, honored Raymond Scott with a song.
