Baltimore Gas and Electric Company to Conduct Routine Vegetation Management along Cromwell Bridge Road

Work will help ensure the safety and reliability of the 115,000-volt transmission line that serves 50,000 Towson area customers

BALTIMORE, Oct. 18, 2012 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) <http://www.bge.com/Pages/default.aspx>  today announced plans to begin routine tree and vegetation management along the 115,000-volt transmission line on Cromwell Bridge Road that serves 50,000 Towson area customers in late October. This important work is necessary to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the area’s electric service and is required by the Maryland Public Service Commission as part of a mandatory five-year vegetation management schedule.

“BGE is committed to continually investing in the measures that provide safe and reliable electric service,” said Jeannette M. Mills, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “To prevent disruptive power outages, we strive to maintain reliable electric service through various methods, including the application of a robust tree and vegetation management program.”

Beginning in 2007, BGE conducted more comprehensive tree and vegetation management to prune and remove trees or tree limbs that posed a threat to the transmission line. As part of this effort, the company worked with the local community to create and implement a planting plan to encourage vegetation that would not affect the electric equipment. As a result of this extensive work, BGE does not expect the current maintenance to greatly affect the properties of surrounding residents. BGE has reached out to customers through letters and an open house, and will maintain its commitment to working with customers regarding any work conducted on customer property. Work is expected to be complete within three months.

BGE manages trees and vegetation along more than 10,500 miles of overhead power lines. For more information on BGE’s Tree and Vegetation Management Program visit bge.com/TreeCare <file:///C:\Users\e16957\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary%20Internet%20Files\Content.Outlook\F1DXZV8H\bge.com\treecare> .
