BGE Receives Two Top Industry Awards for the Company’s Commitment to Safety and its
Customer Communications and Operations for its PeakRewardsSM Program
Southeastern Electric Exchange also recognized BGE as the company that has received the highest number of
consecutive industry excellence awards
BALTIMORE, (Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced that it has been recognized with two top industry awards by the Southeastern Electric Exchange (S.E.E.). On Wednesday, June 26, BGE was awarded with an S.E.E. Industry Excellence Award in two categories--Safety and Rates and Regulations--during the S.E.E. conference and trade show in Orlando, Fla. BGE was also recognized by S.E.E. as the company that has received the highest number of consecutive industry excellence awards-more than any other company.) –
In the Safety category (a new category), BGE was recognized for its commitment to safety and safety policies by launching a campaign called Rethinking Drinking to educate and inform employees about the consequences of driving while impaired. The comprehensive campaign included a variety of communications to BGE’s 3,400 employees, including a video, email communications, printed literature and several safety events to emphasize the importance of driving safety. BGE also received an Industry Excellence Award in the Rates and Regulations category for its commitment to enhancing customer communications and operations regarding BGE’s PeakRewards demand response program. PeakRewards launched in 2008, and through proactive customer engagement, the company continues to educate customers and improve its customer communications during PeakRewards emergency and non-emergency events. BGE sister company, PECO in Philadelphia, Pa., also received an S.E.E. award in the Transmission category for its innovative approach to transmission system repair.

The S.E.E. Industry Excellence Awards are given out annually in 11 different categories from substation and environmental to production and distribution. Award submissions are reviewed by an industry panel and are evaluated for achievement, innovation, improvement, requirements and technical complexity. Founded in 1933, the Southeastern Electric Exchange is a non-profit, non-political trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies.
BGE has received numerous industry honors recently including; 2010 Platts Energy Efficiency Program of the Year Award for its BGE Smart Energy Savers Program®, 2011 Chartwell Best Practices Award, 2011 Public Relations Society of America Best in Maryland Award, 2011 Association of Energy Services Professionals Award for Outstanding Achievement for its Smart Energy Pricing Pilot Program, 2011 Motor Truck Association Awards for Safe Driving Supervision, Training and Practices, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Edison Electric Institute Emergency Recovery Award for response efforts in several large scale storms, 2011 and 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program, 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award in Energy Efficiency Program Delivery, Wildlife at Work Certification for several consecutive years for its comprehensive wildlife habitat management program, and many others.
