Representatives from approximately 40 emergency preparedness, response and safety organizations, including volunteer fire companies, from across Maryland who received a 2013 BGE Emergency Responders Safety Grant
WHAT: In its second year, BGE launched its Emergency Response and Safety Grant Program, designed specifically for nonprofit emergency response and safety organizations that provide emergency services support – either preparedness or response and recovery – throughout BGE’s central Maryland service area. During the press conference, more than $350,000 will be distributed to approximately 40 organizations which represent Baltimore City and the counties in which BGE provides natural gas and/or electric service, including volunteer fire departments, search and rescue teams and other public safety groups.

WHY: BGE greatly values its relationships with its emergency response partners. Through this program, BGE has the unique opportunity to further strengthen its support of emergency responders as part of Exelon’s $70 million, 10-year commitment to Maryland. Examples of equipment to be purchased with BGE grant monies include defibrillators, radio systems, thermal imager cameras, rescue tools and carbon monoxide detection equipment.
