Father is Soldier Home on Leave from Iraq
On Tuesday, August 31, U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) and U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes will attend the Partnership for Housing Foundation’s Maryland Home Makeover ™ for the Barry family of Gambrills. The Barry home has undergone extensive renovations to meet the needs of their severely disabled son, Danny.
Danny, now 22, suffered a stroke in 1996 following a diabetic crisis. The stroke resulted in a traumatic brain injury, making it difficult for him to climb stairs. Since July, the Partnership for Housing Foundation has renovated the home to make it possible for Danny to live on the first floor. Danny’s father, Michael, will be home on leave from Iraq for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new renovations.
Maryland Realtors ® developed the program inspired by the ABC television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” The mission of the Maryland Home Makeover ™ program is to assist Maryland homeowners with basic home repairs and renovations that are needed to ensure the safety, health and security of the residents. Qualified recipients include households or surviving families of police, firefighters, EMS technicians, veterans, community heroes and those who are developmentally disabled or physically challenged.
