Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Invites Media to Observe Simulated Storm Damage Assessment as Part of Annual Storm Drill

BGE field crews participate in simulated storm damage assessment training at White Marsh Training Center in order to more efficiently assess hazards during storms

WHO: Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)

WHAT: As part of the more than 200 BGE employees participating in the annual BGE storm drill, field crews will participate in a simulated storm damage assessment at its White Marsh Training Center. This event is an exercise in the continual training of BGE’s field resources in order to efficiently identify system damage to restore service as quickly and as safely as possible during storms.

BGE not only monitors current and approaching weather conditions which could result in service interruptions, but it also regularly conducts emergency training drills during which all aspects of its emergency response and storm-related service restoration tactics and best practices and tested. The drill kicked off at noon on Monday and will continue through Friday, Oct. 5. Throughout the drill, BGE’s Electric Delivery Emergency Response Plan will be reviewed company-wide to ensure that storm response procedures are up-to-date and in-line with industry standards.

WHY: Although each type of weather event poses unique response and restoration issues, a common factor across all incidents is the need for BGE to efficiently and safely restore power and effectively communicate with customers, media, regulators, elected officials, other external stakeholders and its employees. As a result, the Electric Delivery Emergency Response Plan is designed to address emergency planning, preparedness and response processes that may be necessary for all hazards that cause customer outages or damage to the BGE electric and natural gas system.

NOTE: Media representatives must wear flat, sturdy shoes and long pants in order to access the simulation area. Please provide names of individuals who will be attending in advance by contacting Rachael Lighty at the information above.
