BALTIMORE, October 12, 2012 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced its support for Baltimore County’s Fall Big Trees Sale, which offers more than 300 native, large-growing trees to County residents. Big trees not only add aesthetic value to neighborhoods but they also have the added benefit of keeping homes cool during warm weather and therefore helping customers conserve energy. Knowledgeable BGE foresters will provide important information to help customers select trees following the guidelines of the company’s Right Tree , Right Place <> program, which helps ensure the continued reliability of electric service throughout BGE’s service area. Hosted by the county’s Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability, the event will take place Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Baltimore County Center for Maryland Agriculture, located at 1114 Shawan Road in Cockeysville.

“BGE is committed to helping customers maintain and grow the tree canopy in their area, while also protecting the electric distribution system from potential damage caused by tall growing trees,” said Jeannette M. Mills, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “By helping customers plant wisely with our Right Tree, Right Place Program <> , our customers can enjoy reliable electric service as well as the beauty and benefits of these big trees.”

Supporting events such as the Big Trees Sale <> is one of the many ways BGE is working to enhance the electric reliability for Baltimore County residents.

As always, BGE reminds individuals planning digging projects – including home gardening such as tree planting to large-scale professional landscaping – to call 811 at least two business days before the project begins, but not more than ten days prior to digging. Digging without calling 811 can disrupt critical services, such as natural gas delivery, to an entire neighborhood, cause injuries, property damage, and costly repairs and potentially result in penalties.
