LT. GOVERNOR BROWN TO PARTICIPATE IN GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY
FOR BENNETT MIDDLE SCHOOL
FRUITLAND, Md. (April 18, 2013) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will join Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt, State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lillian Lowery, Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, and other state and local officials to participate in a ceremonial groundbreaking at the future site for the new Bennett Middle School in Fruitland, followed by an official program at the James M. Bennett Auditorium. The project will be supported in part by $30.5 million in state funding.
Despite making more cuts to state spending than any previous administration, Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown have chosen to make targeted investments in priorities like education and job creation. The FY2014 Budget enacted by the General Assembly includes $325 million for the Public School Construction Program, including $25 million for air conditioning in schools. The total school construction commitment under the O’Malley-Brown Administration to replace temporary learning shacks with modern, state-of-the-art 21st Century classrooms now stands at nearly $2.4 billion.
