GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ANNOUNCES BALTIMORE COUNTY EDUCATION APPOINTMENTS

 

 

 

 

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 10, 2013) 

 

Governor Martin O'Malley today announced appointments to the Baltimore County Board of Education.

 

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of these highly-skilled and talented individuals to the Baltimore County Board of Education,” said Governor O’Malley. “With their wide-ranging experience, dedication and commitment to improving our schools, I am confident that working together, we can build on the progress we’ve made for our #1 in the nation public schools.”

 

Marisol A. Johnson (At Large) will replace Cornelia Bright Gordon. Ms. Johnson is Owner and CEO of The Johnson Insurance and Financial Service Agency (a State Farm Agency). She earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Towson University and a Master's degree from the College of Notre Dame. Ms. Johnson is an Advisory Board member for the Youth Dreamers of Baltimore, a Board member for the Druid Heights Community Center, a member of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Summit Park PTA.

 

Edward J. Gilliss, Esq. (Council District 5) will replace Valerie Roddy. Mr. Gilliss is an Attorney and Partner with the firm of Royston, Mueller, McLean & Reid in Towson. His practice areas are civil litigation, administrative law and wills and estate administration. He previously served as County Attorney for Baltimore County. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Wooster, Ohio and his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. Mr. Gilliss most recently served as Chairman of the Baltimore County Planning Board and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board for the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.

 

Jonathan P. Galla (Student) is a junior at Hereford High School where he is a member of the National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta (the Math Honors Society) and the Tri-M Honors Society (the Music Honor Society). Mr Galla is a violinist and is active in the Baltimore County Public Schools All-Honors Orchestra, the FAME Orchestra, the Hereford Symphonic Orchestra, the Pit Orchestra and Side-by-Side with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as a Math Tutor and is Vice President of the Hereford High Gay-Straight Alliance and is Treasurer of the Hereford High Student Council.

 

David Uhlfelder (At Large) is being reappointed to the Board. He is a Certified Public Accountant and President of David Uhlfelder, P.A. Accounting and Management Consulting Firm. He graduated with a degree in Business and Administration from the University of Maryland at College Park and then went on to earn his Certified Public Accountant Certificate. He is a life member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and Vice Chairman of the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital.
