Comptroller Encourages Marylanders to Shop Local, Kicks Off


Statewide Tour in La Plata

WHAT:          Comptroller Peter Franchot will tour La Plata stores and eateries on the first stop of his “Shop Maryland for the Holidays” tour. The purpose of the statewide tour is to encourage Marylanders to shop locally as it keeps taxpayer dollars in residents’ communities and supports Maryland’s critical retail sector.


The Comptroller will begin his tour with local officials by enjoying some scrumptious treats at the Charles Street Bakery. He then will visit Island Music Company, Bernie’s Frame Shop, the Pizza Hotline and end at Joson Fine Jewelry and Home Boutique.  The La Plata Shop Local tour will be followed by visits throughout the holiday season to Cumberland, Takoma Park/Laurel, Easton, Mt. Washington and Annapolis.


After his “Shop Maryland for the Holidays” tour, the Comptroller will present a proclamation to the owners of Rip’s Country Inn, a local meeting place for hungry patrons hailing from Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington, D.C., and serving the local community for 61 years.
