CARDIN TO VISIT SOUTHERN MARYLAND TRI-COUNTY

PROGRAMS THAT ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR

LOCAL COMMUNITIES

 

TUESDAY, January 21U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, will visit Southern Maryland to tour innovative programs that are helping residents of the Tri-County region.  Senator Cardin first will meet with students who are receiving culinary training for future careers through the Chesapeake Church Culinary Training Program, and he’ll visit their End Hunger Warehouse, which supports community families in need. Afterward, Senator Cardin will tour the new Platinum-LEED certified engineering and operating center of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO).

What:             Culinary Training Program and Kitchen Tour

Senator Cardin will tour the kitchen and meet the students, teacher, director, and program manager of an innovative job training program designed by Chesapeake Church to meet the needs of job retraining in a rural area.

What:             End Hunger Warehouse Visit and Tour

Senator Cardin will meet with volunteers on delivery day and discuss their growing mission. The Chesapeake Church’s End Hunger Warehouse distributes thousands of pounds of food throughout Southern Maryland. The affiliated Farming for Hunger Program provides locally grown produce to the food pantry.

Senator Cardin, who is a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, will tour the new Platinum-LEED certified engineering and operating center of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO). He will learn more about their reliability project, call center and solar farm, which were funding with federal resources, including the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
