A Capitol Heights man has pled guilty in connection with the abduction, robbery and assault of his pregnant girlfriend, according to a recent news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr.

According to the release, Christopher Devese, 22, pled on July 9 to kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon, robbery, and felony contempt. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 13. Devese faces a likely prison time of four to seven years.

Government evidence in the case showed that April 27, at about 12:30 p.m., Devese chased the victim, his girlfriend, in a car from Capitol Heights into the District. She had called 911 to report the incident. At a gas station in the 4900 block of South Dakota Avenue, NE, Devese smashed the woman’s car window, pulled her out, put her in his car and drove her to an alley, where he beat her in the stomach with his fist, the release said. Devese drove the woman back to Capitol Heights, where he assaulted her again until his mother stepped in to help the victim.
