“I came here to join in the festivities. It’s a beautiful day and everyone seems so happy to be here,” said 26-year-old Hakim Turner from Richmond, who chose not to enter the memorial site so that he could sell his commemorative buttons. “I am here to honor the legacy of Dr. King, but in this economy I also have to make some money, you know. Business has been good so far today, but I’m hoping it will get better. I’m definitely happy to see all these people out here since the last [ceremony] got rescheduled.”
