Rutgers Overwhelms Howard

Senior guard Anton Dickerson led Howard with 16 points and senior forward Mike Phillips added 10 points with six rebounds but it wasn’t enough to outmatch Rutgers Dec. 21 in a 79-55 loss in Piscataway, N.J.

This was the first time Howard had faced Rutgers in a men’s basketball game. Rutgers is now 11-0 against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools.

Rutgers was led by sophomore guard Eli Carter with 20 points, followed by sophomore guard Myles Mack with 15 points and four assists. Wally Judge, a redshirt junior, added a double-digit performance with 12 points, along with six rebounds and three assists, as Rutgers easily ran up a lopsided score over Howard.

Howard was able to cut the lead to just 11 points early in the second half, but Rutgers then went on an 8-0 run and pushed the lead beyond 20 points. 

Rutgers shot 60 percent from the field as a team and forced 18 turnovers by Howard, resulting in 28 fast-break points. Howard shot just 45 percent from the field, simply not enough to keep up with the better Rutgers squad.

Howard (3-10 overall) will next face the University of Central Florida (7-3 overall) on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.
