New Christian Memorial’s senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Walter Bronson, Jr., died October, 8. He was 83.
Born August 24, 1935, in Walkula, North Carolina, Rev. Dr. Bronson moved to Baltimore in 1961.
Prior to his arrival in the city, Rev. Dr. Bronson served the 82nd Airborne, “The All-American” division. He also met and married Irma Doris nee Chavis. Together, they had five children, three boys and two girls.
Rev. Dr. Bronson is a graduate of both Catonsville Community College and Coppin State University. He earned his Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Determined Biblical Theological Institute of Baltimore Maryland.
The call to the ministry came in 1968. Rev. Dr. Bronson gave his first sermon April 25, 1968 and was ordained September 19, 1969. January, 24, 1970, he became pastor of New Christian Memorial.
Dr. Bronson was elected as president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Baltimore and Vicinity On November 10, 2008.
The reverend will lay in repose Sunday, October 14, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. His life will be celebrated Monday, October 15 with a wake at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.
