(June 15, 2012) After a dizzying week that saw NBA lottery hopefuls Thomas Robinson and Bradley Beal pass through Washington, D.C. for workouts with the Wizards, former Kentucky star Michael Kidd-Gilchrist closed the week at the Verizon Center with a solo session June 15.

Kidd-Gilchrist, one of the stars on a freshmen-loaded championship Wildcats team, is another prospect that the Wizards have been targeting with the third overall pick in the NBA Draft June 26. Former Washington Huskies guard Terrence Ross and Duke freshman guard Austin Rivers also worked out for the team as Washington continued its search for a deadeye shooting guard.

However, unlike Robinson and Beal, Kidd-Gilchrist already comes with Kentucky connections, an aspect that’s sure to please Wizards star point guard and former Wildcat John Wall.

“Obviously it’s a great feeling,” Kidd-Gilchrist said of possibly playing with Wall, should the Wizards select him. “I like John a lot so it’s a great feeling. I’d be happy. Whatever happens, happens.”

The 6-foot, 7-inch small forward would be a welcome addition to a team still searching for starters at the wing positions. Known as a lockdown defender during his lone season at Kentucky, Kidd-Gilchrist averaged nearly 12 points, two assists, a steal, a block and more than seven rebounds a game as the do-it-all combo forward for last season’s national champions.
