HOWARD University

The Howard University Lady Bison women’s basketball team pushed its overall record to 2-9 with an impressive win over Mount St. Mary’s, 62-49, in a non-conference game on Dec. 12 on the road at Emmitsburg, Md.

It was the second straight win for Howard; they snapped a nine-game losing slump with a 68-61 win over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe North Carolina A&T on Dec. 7.

According to Howard University, the Lady Bison’s victory was propelled by senior center Victoria Gonzalez, who put on a milestone performance. Gonzalez made 15-of-24 shots to score a career-high 33 points, surpassing her previous personal best of 26 points in November.

According to Howard, the last time a Lady Bison player scored 30 or more points was November 2014, when redshirt sophomore guard Te’Shya Heslip went off for 32 points against New Hampshire.

With Gonzalez’s scoring frenzy, Howard was able to spark a 22-0 scoring run in the second quarter, helping them pull away by the midpoint of the period

Howard junior forward Sydni Johnson joined Gonzalez in double digits point with 21.

Next: Howard will try to keep the win streak going when they face Old Dominion on Dec. 15 in Burr Gymnasium. It will be the final home game before the New Year for the Lady Bison. Howard then heads to Cincinnati to take on Xavier on Dec. 19.
