Comptroller Franchot to Tour Baltimore Elementary School, Honor Local Business and Visit Comet Park
Comptroller to See School and Park Renovations, Honor Business Owner

WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will visit the Historic Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Elementary School in Baltimore Tuesday morning to see its recently renovated media center. As a member of the Board of Public Works, which approves school construction funding, the Comptroller also will take stock of the needs of the facility. Baltimore City has requested $5.2 million in state funding to install a new heating and cooling system here.
The Comptroller then will visit Westway Liquors to present a proclamation to owner Tom Iampieri, recognizing the family-owned business for their commitment to the local community. Westway Liquors opened in 1950 as a retail spirit shop by brothers William and Gene Iampieri. Tom Iampieri took over ownership in 1988.
The Comptroller’s final stop will be at Comet Park — home to Catonsville High School athletes and Catonsville Recreation and Parks programs. The Comet Boosters Club built a concession stand at the park with the help of matching state grant funds in 2013. Last August, the boosters received another matching state grant to build a press box and new bleachers.
