Franchot to Speak to Vets at Legion Convention; Head to Summer Tradition — Tawes Clam Bake

– Comptroller to Present Schaefer Helping People Award for Somerset County at Festivities-

WHAT:          Comptroller Peter Franchot will commend the members of the 97th annual American Legion Department Convention for their valor and service to our nation during a speech to veterans Wednesday morning at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City. As a U.S. Army veteran himself, Comptroller Franchot also will address issues affecting Maryland veterans and their families.

The Comptroller then will travel to participate in a longtime, summer tradition — the 39th annual J. Millard Tawes Clam Bake in Crisfield. The annual celebration is named in honor of Crisfield native, J. Millard Tawes, who was Maryland’s 54th governor. The Comptroller will stop by the Somerset County Long Term Recovery Committee tent where he will present the 2015 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Somerset County to Pastor Phil Huber and Pastor Thomas Sinnott. The committee was formed after Hurricane Sandy to help those affected by the hurricane. The committee has built a dozen homes and helped in recovery efforts. The committee also is dedicated to the long-term recovery of the county.
