Franchot to Tour School, Brewery in Howard Co.

Comptroller to Visit Swansfield Elementary, Honor Manor Hill Brewing

WHO:             Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will tour Swansfield Elementary School in Columbia this afternoon as part of his role as a member of the Board of Public Works, which approves public school construction funding. The school will receive $7.5 million in state funding for a 100-seat addition that will eliminate the need for four existing portable classrooms. The funding will also be used to create space for related arts programs, a health suite, pre-kindergarten classrooms and a secured entryway, as well as overhauling the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, lighting and technological systems,

Franchot then will visit Manor Hill Brewing in Ellicott City to present a proclamation to the Marriner family for the brewery’s launch and recent success. Howard County’s first farm brewery is located on the 54-acre Marriner Family farm, where the head brewer crafts handmade beers from original and unique recipes. Brewing began in small test batches in early 2015, with full-scale production launched last May, and has grown to 16 beers produced in kegs and cans, in addition to seasonal offerings. One of its brews was the highest-rated beer at the 2015 Maryland Craft Beer Festival.
